If there’s one thing the WA staff looooves, it’s Pinterest. We use it both professionally and personally. We use it to connect with our members, to connect with the great big world out there, for stress relief, and just for good, clean FUN.
(HINT: skip this next part if you already know what Pinterest is!)
What IS Pinterest, you ask? It’s a social network that allows its users to visually share. You can discover new interests, ideas, recipes, DIY projects, places to travel, new hairstyles, sweet babies, haute couture, cuddly animals…you name it! As a user, you create “boards” kind of like scrapbooks and you select “pins” to go on those boards (this is called “pinning”). Typically the pins are images that can be clicked through to websites or videos.
The WA is on Pinterest http://www.pinterest.com/waofnjpac/ and we can’t get enough! We have Boards like “Purple Haze” which is all things aubergine because it reminds us of WA Trustee Audrey Bartner who has passion for purple.
And, “Hats & Millinery” to inspire us for an upcoming WA Spring Luncheon!
Or, “Culinary Eye Candy” for…well, cuz it’s FUN!
I read on NPR’s tech blog that Pinterest is being used by police departments when they find stolen loot like jewelry. They take pics of the items and post on Pinterest in hopes of finding the rightful owners. True story. (http://www.npr.org/blogs/alltechconsidered/2014/05/05/309058202/you-love-pinterest-find-out-why-the-police-do-too) AND to catch criminals on the run! (http://www.npr.org/blogs/alltechconsidered/2012/12/07/166678862/to-catch-a-suspect-on-pinterest)
But don’t take our word for how fabulous Pinterest is—hop on, follow us, and we’ll follow you! Come on, it’ll be fun!
