Nothin’ Like A Dame

Some of us at the WA are…how should I put it?? Ummm…Broadway GEEKS! That’s why our upcoming Gala on September 27th is SO exciting! It will star four of Broadway’s best of the best females!

Tony Award winner Laura Benanti (www.laurabenanti.com) will be here and she is a 30-something who began her Broadway career at 18 in Sound of Music with Richard Chamberlain. She won her first Tony in Gypsy (which we saw!) as Gypsy Rose Lee.

Benanti, Laura - Concert Headshot copyGo to her website and check out her Youtube videos, they are too funny. One of our favorites is when she says, “I came out of the womb pretty much a 45-year old gay man. Which works out great in Hollywood when you’re a 34-year-old woman.” Must say, we are pleasantly surprised to learn of her exuberance and sense of humor.

Then there’s Barbara Cook, a Broadway legend. This Grand Dame has been singing around the world for over 50 years. She’s 86 years old and her voice is STILL as clear as a bell. She received the Kennedy Center Honor in 2011. And after a 23-year absence, she was nominated for a Tony for her performance in Sondheim by Sondheim (we saw that, too!) in 2010. She won a Tony Award for Music Man in 1957.

And we can’t forget Patina Miller who won her Tony in 2013 for PIPPIN. She’s a Southern girl from South Carolina who was also nominated for a ton of stuff for her role in Sister Act. Maybe you recognize her from All My Children?

SA Playbill Headshot copyWe’re excited! Barbara will add the seasoning, Faith…the sugar, Patina, definitely the spice, and Laura…welllll, we think Laura’s gonna add the vodka.  😉
